Chemical investigation of epicuticular wax obtained from Euphorbia milii leaves

Abstract Epicuticular wax analysis was performed on the leaves of chloroform extract obtained from plant Euphorbia milii (‘Christ’s plant’). Aim study is to identify chemical constituents and discover how they were distributed within cuticle. Column chromatographic separations based polarity GC–MS led identification pentacyclic triterpenoids, its acetates hydrocarbons that are found be present in epicuticular wax. The revealed contains Lupenone, Glutinol, Lupeol acetate, Glutinyl Friedelan-3-ol,D:A-Friedooleanan-28-acetate 3beta hydroxyl fraction1. second fraction contain Friedooleanan-3-ol, Friedooleanan-3-aceteate along with carbon chain length C 23 –C 33 . Hydrocarbons form alkanes alkenes identified as major third leaf extracts vary 18 34 Cuticular dominated by triterpenoids first two fractions. last constituent. functional group through FTIR-HATR reveals presence characteristic peaks waxes. finding suggests biomass can an important source for hydrocarbon.
